Battle Lake, Minnesota was officially incorporated on April 28, 1891. As our nation prepares to celebrate its 250th birthday, Battle Lake is pausing to celebrate the past while continuing to point to the future with a celebration of its own.
Old Settlers Remembrance
Battle Lake has a long tradition as a gathering place for community celebration and shared history. Beginning in 1897, Old Settlers Picnics brought early residents, families, and visitors together to reconnect, share stories, and honor the pioneer history of Otter Tail County. In 1915, Battle Lake became the permanent home for the gatherings, which grew into major countywide events and helped preserve the stories and memories of the area’s earliest settlers.
